Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is a syndrome which causes pain in the muscles, a lack of energy, insomnia, and even depression. Due to recent developments in physical therapy, the therapists and Urbana Physical Therapy are now able to help their patients make significant improvement in pain management and quality of life. Many of them experience a significant reduction in pain even on bad weather days.
Primal Reflex Release Technique enables the therapists to gently reduce tenderness in tender points. Patients also come into a more relaxed state. This also helps with pain.
Total Motion Release is a systematic exercise program that helps patients treat their own symptoms no matter where they are in the body. Many of them experience significant relief after just one or two sessions.
Here is what some of our patients have to say:
"I felt pain every minute of every day. Very concerned about effects of pain medicine I had been on since Aug 2000. I kept taking higher doses of stronger drugs.
[Now] I feel like a new person. I am no longer in constant, unrelenting pain. I no longer take the pain medicines. If the pain starts, I feel I now have the tools and techniques to lessen or eliminate it.
In 5 visits my life has completely changed. I felt like my life was governed by pain, now I have my life back."
-Jill Gunsaulies, Urbana
"I was having severe pain in legs, knee, lower back, and arms from Fibromyalgia. Almost unbearable.
[Now I feel] Great! The pain and soreness is 95 % gone. I can move easier than I have in months!
The staff at Urbana PT were wonderful. Very careful and considerate in the gym. Chris did a wonderful job finding just the right exercises for me and helping me explore what things triggered my Fibro flareups."
-Rhonda Crawford, West Liberty
"[When I first came to UPT I was] Depressed; had to drag myself to everywhere I need to go; every joint on me hurt; I had migraine headaches several times a month.
[Now] Depression has lifted; I'm enjoying a ladies' Bible Study; am taking a class at Clark State; since learning the Iam's Maneuver I can manage my pain; I've been giving up nightshade foods & pop & artificial sweeteners. When I cheat I know it.
You and your staff practice what you preach! Everyone pays special attention to each client and is compassionate about helping them feel better. I'm thankful for all of you."
-Barbara Cremeans, Springfield
"I was in constant pain and had to take Vicodin for some relief. [Now] I very seldom have leg and feet cramps, and I don't have to take Vicodin now. I think the work you have done for my fibromyalgia has helped a lot as it helps the muscles relax that are involved with the back pain.
-Rebecca Schade, St. Paris
"I had severe pain from arthritis and fibromyalgia. Felt lethargic and dull. Couldn't think straight at times. Was depressed quite often. Always tired.
[Now] I am often free from pain. I've continued to do the exercises and believe it has helped a lot. I have a better outlook on life, more energy, more confidence.
I do believe therapy has changed my life. I'm so thankful to Chris for helping me. I'm better able to manage my pain."
-Shelly Jenkins, Springfield
"When I first came to Urbana Physical Therapy I had:
• Pain in lower back – left side (severe)
• Neck pain (severe) daily
• Jaw pain, left side, severe all day and night
• Pain under shoulder blade (severe) day and night
• Constant headaches
Now:
• I have pain in lower back only when I stand for more than 45 minutes and drive (moderate)
• I have pain under shoulder blade, left side, 3 times weekly, not every day
• Jaw pain – infrequent
• I feel like working more as a substitute teacher because pain is less.
Chris has been very thorough in explanations and hands on therapy. Chris is very personable for a therapist. Becky and Paula (PTAs) were very good in explaining exercises."
-Gloria Bayliss, Springfield
" I was having headaches everyday, a lot of pain in my neck and ribs, some pain in lower back/hips [for 5 years], very low energy level.
[Now] The headaches have went away, neck is not so stiff, no pain in lower back/hips area. Ribs only have little pain in morning. My energy level is much better, I feel like I can do normal things.
I am very thankful for your help."
-Kamela Titlow, West Liberty
